Chess Queen Kosteniuk knocked out

Ruan Lufei knocked out reigning Women World Champion in the Women World Chess Championship 2010 held in Antakya, Turkey.

Kosteniuk 0 1/2 (eliminated)
Ruan, Lufei 1 1/2

She lost the first game and could only draw the second game in the short two round knockout match. Kosteniuk appears to be the biggest casualty in the 16 player knockout tournament to determine the new Women World Champion.

This event is unique as unlike the traditional cycle where the defending champion waits to meet the challenger in the selection cycle, the defending world champion herself has to take part in the knockout event.
