Good example for minority attack

Minority attack is simply an advance of pawns on the side of the board where one has fewer pawns than the opponent, usually carried out to provoke a weakness.

Here is a classic game played recently between youngster Amier Hamzah vs his much stronger and older opponent Tun Seri Lanang in Round 6 DATCC League played last week.

Even though it’s a text book strategy common in the Queen’s gambit, Tun Seri Lanang was caught without a plan against the minority attack started by his younger opponent.

White just played b5 after proper piece placement to back up the minority attack.

As a result, White broke through on the Queen side winning a pawn while black’s attack on the King side proved toothless.
