Important Announcement on NC 2011–Limited place!

The number of players registering for the National Closed increased rapidly over the last 24 hours with the number of players for the Open section hitting 75 players and the Women section climbing to 22 players.

Penang sent in 11 players for the event (9 for the Open section and 2 for the Women) followed by Kelantan and Pahang with 3 players each, and Sarawak with a single representative. Both the winners of last year National Junior event, Lim Zhuo Ren and Alia Anin Azwa Bakri have registered for the event, including reigning Women Champion, Fong Mi Yen.

For the Open section, the top seeded player is currently Loo Swee Loong of Penang followed by Mohd Saprin Sabri and Yeoh Li Tian. In the Women section, WFM Ali Azwa Anin Bakri leads the pack followed by WCM Fong Mi Yen and WCM Nur Nabila Azman Hisham.

With capacity for the National Closed is limited to 120 seats, there are only 21 seats left to be filled. With some states still waiting for the 1st March deadline to register, and those who are rated 2200 and above who are waiting until 9th of March to confirm their participation, the door might close much earlier as soon as the number of players hit the ceiling of 120.

Some of those who have preregistered but have not made the necessary payment, are advised to complete the payment soon or contact the organizer for extension failing which, their names may be canceled to allow for other players to take part.

Pre-register National Closed 2011

ATTENTION: Take note that this does not constitute as an early registration unless it is accompanied with the necessary payment before 20th February.

Free entry for 2200 above for NC2011

All players with a rating of 2200 and above (for Open) and 2000 and above (for Women) can participate in the National Closed event with FREE entry.

The condition is confirmation must be received before 9th March 2011 - 1 week before the event is scheduled to start.

After the deadline, the entry fees for these players shall be RM50. The rating shall be based on both January and March (coming out soon) official FIDE rating list so, a player who is above the threshold in either of the rating list, shall be allowed for FREE entry.

Seniors sharing with juniors

Maybe this is one reason Philippines is such a strong chess force.

Le Quang Liem leads 4/4 in Aeroflot

According to Gilocatur Anas once finished ahead of the now Super GM Le Quang Liem.

Le is now leading the prestigious Aeroflot tournament with 4/4 after having defeated last year's winner Gata Kamsky.

Peter Long new chess column

Peter Long (above picture as KL Grand Prix arbiter) is a qualified FIDE Trainer, arbiter, FIDE Master and also a famous chess columnist. At one time there were only 3 newspaper chess columns run Quah Seng Sun, Lim Chong and Peter Long. Peter Long had the distinction for writing for three different newspapers. But that was years ago and Peter Long has since concentrated his efforts outside of chess.

National Closed 2011 announced

It is
that time of the year again for the most important chess event in our
annual calendar – the National Closed. This is the main event that will
crown the best Men and Women player in the country, earning the coveted
National Master title. With the SEA Games event set to be staged towards
the end of the year, the top finishers in this year’s National Closed
will also earned the opportunities to be selected as Malaysia’s
representative in the regional biannual event.



The National Closed 2011 will be organized by Malaysian Chess Federation
(MCF) and jointly organized and hosted by the Dato Arthur Tan Chess
Center (DATCC). The details of the event are as follows:

Date : 16^th March to 20^th March 2011

Venue : Dato’ Arthur Tan Chess Center (DATCC),4^th Floor, Wilayah Complex,

No 2, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Kuala Lumpur



Tournament format is based on 9 Rounds Swiss with Time Control of 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move per game per player



Entry Fees is FREE for the 2010 Champions (Open/Women) provided
registration is received before 1-Mar. After this date, a fee of RM50
shall be imposed.



Other Fees are based on FIDE Rating:

FIDE rating above 2000 RM 60

FIDE rating between 1600 & 1999 RM 100

FIDE rating below 1599 & UNRATED RM 150



20% discount if before 20-Feb (RM 54 / RM 80 / RM 120)

Normal charge if between 20-Feb and 13-Mar

50% penalty if after 13-Mar (RM 90 / RM 150 / RM 225)



50% discount for State representatives

- Limited to 1 Open and 1 Woman player per state

- Registration confirmed and paid before 1-Mar

- Players must be endorsed by State Association

- After 1-Mar, normal entry fee rate shall apply

- Free registration if State player is above FIDE Rating of 2200



Entries limited to the first 120 players who have registered, confirmed and paid the entry fees for the event



Schedule of rounds, tie-breakers used, payment method, registration
forms including terms and conditions and other information about the
