The brilliant Rg2!

This position arises from a game between Yeap Eng Chiam as black and Thong Yung Chen as white in the last round of KASUGI. Yeap Eng Chiam brilliantly played Rg2! On first sight, many would have thought it is a blunder, even Eng Chiam himself was surprised for a second after playing this move. But it turned out to be the winning move. Did you see the continuation after Qxg2?

KASUGI 1st day report

The Kasugi Chess Team event has started today at Cititel Express. Many top Malaysian chess player were here, including FM Nicholas Chan, IM Mok Tze Meng, FM Ronnie Lim and IM Jimmy Liew! Besides that, Kasugi has also attracted strong foreign players from Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei, such as IM Nolte Rolando, Ian Udani, IM Bancod Ronald, FM Yee Soon Wei (BRU) and FM Pitra Andika (INA). The time control is 45 minutes to the end of the game. 4 IM, 4 FM and 1 CM in all were present in this event.

It was a tragic morning for me as my team 1st board could not arrived. I would not be blogging about this event if not for a last minute replacement in our team. In fact, there was also a team which only have 3 players after one of their member could not play.

Blogger Gilocatur was also busy blogging about this event.

SPAWN Armageddon nearly withdrew from the event due to shortage of player.

Rank after round 4
Apocalypse-Manila Chess team from Philippines takes a slight lead ahead of top Malaysian Team, Tesla Chess. Both teams will be facing each other in the next round. ChessisChess captain by IM Jimmy Liew comes in 3rd place so far.

As for my team, we are currently rank 36 with only 7.5 points. Still, the result was better than expected ;)

More updates and tons of pictures coming up tomorrow.
